Captivating Cartersville

Hey y’all! Last week we adventured our way over to Cartersville, Georgia! Full of yummy restaurants, sweet boutiques and loads of history, you’ll want to hurry on over for a day out in Captivating Cartersville!

Our first stop was kind of an accident if we’re being honest. We had planned to grab a coffee from a hip little coffee shop in town, Noble & Main (an adorable place and a must visit), but the Pops joined us this Friday, and fancy coffee and espresso drinks aren’t really his thing. So, we did some swift research and found a local favorite Ross’ Diner! An authentic 1940’s diner with some delicious home cooking and friendly service. Remember Ross’ when you’re in Cartersville!

The weather Friday was pretty miserable, but we did manage a hike in between the drizzles. We popped just outside of town to Cooper’s Furnace Day Use Area. The park sits right along the banks of the Etowah River and is named for the impressive old rock furnace that still stands in the park today. It is the last remains of the town of Etowah, which was destroyed in the civil war, the rest lie underneath our local lake Altoona. How cool, right?! Anyway, there are some nice nature trails and and an overlook with beautiful Mountain View’s as well as views of lake Altoona and it’s dam. There is also a visitor’s center at the lookout point, but we didn’t go inside. If you’re a history buff, or are at all interested in the Civil War, you’ll love this place!

After exploring Cooper’s Furnace we went back into town to the Bartow County History Museum. A small, but really thorough tour of the county’s history. We must say we were pretty impressed and thought it was well worth the $6.50 entry fee! Also worth mentioning is the Booth Western Art Museum which is just steps from the history museum. We didn’t visit it on Friday, but have been with our kids on school field trips and it is awesome! We highly recommend both. In case you haven’t had enough history, you can walk across the street to the beautiful, historic courthouse. There’s a civil war memorial out front and a couple of interesting historical markers.

For lunch we walked just around the corner to the Appalachian Grill. The food was tasty, the portions were huge and the service was exceptional! The restaurant itself is quite small and they don’t take reservations, so plan accordingly. We recommend the Pickles and Pups for an appetizer!

Lastly we headed a couple blocks over to JZ’s Taste of Georgia. Y’all, we loved this place! Everything in JZ’s is made right here in Georgia! They have local wines, beers, meats, cheeses, etc. They also have a fantastic selection of unique arts and gifts crafted in Georgia as well. You can stay and have a drink or you can buy your favorite and take it home and enjoy. Either way, we think you’ll love JZ’s too.

Friday was one of our shorter adventures, but it was short and sweet! We loved having Dad with us and we loved Cartersville! We were captivated by its charm and history, we think you will be too. Get out in this beautiful Georgia Fall weather y’all and create some memories in Cartersville!
