Scenic Stone Mountain

Happy adventure day y’all! Today we braved the traffic and headed east of Atlanta to historical Stone Mountain!

In preparation for the traffic we brewed our own coffee this morning and hit the road for our first stop, Stone Mountain Park. After paying the $20 entrance fee we headed straight for the mountain trail. The climb up is unique and pretty strenuous once you get toward the top, so make sure to wear some good hiking shoes and pack some water. The views at the top though are incredible and we had another beautiful, clear day in our favor! Don’t leave that park without hiking to the top, you won’t regret all the sweat! If for some reason you are unable to hike or you have littles that aren’t quiet ready for that kind of adventure you can take the gondola up.

After descending the mountain we drove down the road to the parking for The Yellow Daisy Festival. This is an annual arts and crafts festival at Stone Mountain Park and it’s always fun to attend. There are hundreds of vendors selling just about every craft you could ever imagine and there are some yummy eats and treats there as well!

There are some other really fun things to see and do inside of Stone Mountain Park, including the famous laser show in the warmer months and Snow Mountain in the winter. There’s a lot Civil War history surrounding the park too, if that excites you! As far as lodging, there are several options including a campground and a lovely hotel. You really should visit Stone Mountain Park at least once! It’s fun for the whole family and the mountain itself is really impressive!

For lunch we left the park and took a short drive over to Stone Mountain Village, to an interesting little place called Village Corner German Restaurant Bakery and Tavern. It was like we said, interesting. The food was pretty average, but the giant pretzels they serve are delicious and giant pretzels are life, so that was definitely the highlight! The bakery was filled with delicious looking desserts, but sadly we did not partake. We would definitely recommend swinging by for a giant pretzel and some German beer after you hike the mountain though, that’s always a winning combo!

That was really it for Stone Mountain y’all. If we’re being honest, the traffic coming from our side of town, to that side of town is pretty obnoxious any time of day. It took a little bit of the joy out of the adventure. We researched, but struggled to find any real attractions beyond the park itself. That said, please go hike that awesome mountain. It really is a pretty special Georgia gem!
